The Director Quality Americas is responsible for the leadership and operational execution of Quality Management and Quality Control across three manufacturing plants (USA, Mexico, Brazil). This role ensures harmonized quality systems, standardized testing methodologies, robust customer claim management, and effective analytical and master data governance. Additionally, this individual will act as the primary quality interface between Operations, Technology and Innovation, Sales, and Technical Service for the Americas.
Key Responsibilities
1. Regional Quality Leadership
- Provide functional leadership for plant Quality Managers and quality teams in the US, Mexico, and Brazil.
- Ensure consistent application of corporate Quality Management Systems (QMS) and food safety programs across all sites.
- Drive continuous improvement in product conformity, process capability, and cost of poor quality.
2. Quality Systems & Compliance
- Oversee implementation and maintenance of GFSI-recognized standards (e.g., BRCGS, SQF, FSSC 22000), HACCP, GMPs, and relevant regulatory requirements (USDA)
- Lead regional internal audits and support external audits and customer audits.
- Ensure standardized deviation management, CAPA, and change control processes.
3. Testing & Product Quality Assurance
- Oversee proper implementation and execution of standard testing protocols and product specifications for all casing types produced in the region.
- Coordinate with technology & Innovation to ensure test methods are fit-for-purpose and aligned with customer requirements.
- Coordinates with other areas (EMEA) to ensure quality of inter-area product supply.
4. Customer Claims & Issue Resolution
- Lead regional customer claim management for product quality issues.
- Coordinate, with plant quality managers, the investigation, root cause analysis, and corrective/preventive actions with plants, R&D Sales, and Technical Service.
- Ensure consistent communication of findings and corrective actions with the organization and to customers.
- Track claim trends and drive systemic improvements.
- Coordinate claim resolution for casing originating for other Areas (EMEA).
- Provide subject matter expertise to plant quality and Technology & Innovation.
- Ensures consistency among global plant laboratories through regular interplant product testing and audits.
5. Master Data Management (MDM)
- Oversee the team that handles quality-related master data governance (NPA’s, Master Data creation).
- Ensure accuracy, harmonization, and controlled changes of product and testing data across ERP and other operational systems.
7. Customer Qualification & R&D Support
- Support R&D and Commercial teams in the qualification of new casing products at customer sites.
- Support R&D with the definition of quality criteria and testing requirements for customer trials and first commercial production.
- Ensure proper documentation, validation, and handover from development to routine production.
8. Talent & Capability Development
- Develop regional quality competencies in problem solving, SPC, root cause analysis, and risk management.
- Coach plant quality leaders to operate as business partners rather than inspection functions.
9. Reporting
- Works with the Corporate Advanced Quality Engineer to ensure that the monthly quality KPI report is accurate and delivered on time to the VP Quality & Technology.
- Together with the VP Quality & Technology, develops a monthly KPI analysis and prepares plan of action for the Area.
Education and Requirements
- BS or BA in applied sciences preferred (Chemistry, Physics, or Biology) with 5-10 years of experience in various roles in the casing industry.
- Hands-on functional knowledge of analytical methods preferred, including: IR, HPLC, GC, AA, wet lab chemistry and sample preparation
- Functional use of MSOffice suite of products (esp. MSWord, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint)
- Working knowledge of statistical methods and software desired (e.g., Excel statistics package, Minitab, etc.)
- Strong collaborator and ability to motivate direct report and other associates.
- Analytical and result oriented.
- Leadership abilities, prior direct management of personnel or leader/key individual in critical projects beneficial
- Experience in working with production and quality personnel
- Ability to communicate effectively – prior experience in training desired
- Ability to prioritize/organize multiple projects
- Critical thinking and strong problem solving skills.
- Ability to develop strong relationships within the company and with customers.
