Distribution Supervisor

Position Summary

The Distribution Supervisor at Loudon, is the top Warehouse leader at the plant and is responsible for the safe and efficient receipt, storage, issuance, and shipment of all raw materials, production supplies, and finished goods at the Loudon, TN facility.  You will supervise the union hourly distribution workforce (of 7 mostly tenured - Tank Farm operators, Receiving Clerk, Material Handlers, forklift drivers and Storeroom personnel). This role is the central coordinator between procurement, production, vendors, and the warehouse floor ensuring critical raw materials are on hand, hazardous shipments are unloaded safely and compliantly, and inventory in SAP matches what's actually on the floor.  You will be in a key critical role that keeps production running and must be collaborative with operations with strong people skills.. You'll inherit strong documented procedures and a knowledgeable team where the previous supervisor is available for transition support.

 

Our ideal candidate is hands-on, with strong initiative and drive.  Must be a good leader who is detail-driven, remains calm under a tight delivery window, and unafraid to walk a tank farm at 7 a.m. to verify a nitrogen level themselves.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Daily Operations

  • Manage the daily delivery schedule against open POs; coordinate with buyers and carriers, prepare receiving paperwork (BOLs, inspection checklists), and escalate delays or discrepancies.
  • Monitor and coordinate replenishment of Liquid Nitrogen, Aerosol, Na2SO4 (salt), Wood Pulp, and Dye; notify the buyer at reorder points.
  • Coordinate shipping overtime with operators per the established rotation.

Weekly & Monthly

  • Submit weekly production supply orders to the buyer, including packaging supplies, gaylords, dyes, salt, nitrogen, aerosol, and Berol products (388, 652, 370).
  • Maintain the vendor contact list and manage day-to-day vendor relationships.
  • Lead the monthly physical inventory count, investigate variances, submit results to management on deadline.

Hazardous Materials & Compliance

  • Oversees CS2 (Carbon Disulfide) unloading: completes the Hazardous Work Permit, and ensures all safety protocols are followed throughout the operation.
  • Complete Railcar Inspection Checklists
  • Maintain audit-ready documentation and support the annual Kosher audit and the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) hazardous materials inspections.

SAP & Systems

  • Perform SAP storage location transfers for raw material movement between the external warehouse and the production facility (Wood Pulp, Dye, etc.).
  • Pull SAP inventory reports.

 

Education and Requirements

 

  • High school diploma or GED required. Associate’s preferred but not required
  • Manufacturing plant background is essential. Pulp & paper, food packaging, or chemical industry experience is a big plus. Will also consider a supplier of the same.
  • Minimum 3–5+ years of warehouse / distribution, or supply chain supervision experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Must be an experienced supervisor managing hourly employees, ideally in a unionized/CBA environment.
  • SAP experience (or strong ERP background) is required. Must have working knowledge of SAP (inventory, goods movement, storage location transfers) or comparable ERP system.
  • Experience with hazardous chemicals is required. Hazmat experience is preferred however, must have experience handling and/or coordinating hazardous materials, including familiarity with hazardous work permits, placarding, and DOT/OSHA requirements. Direct experience with CS2, caustic, acid, glycerin, or other bulk chemical unloading operations.
  • Forklift experience with ability to train/audit others.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Outlook; comfortable maintaining schedules, vendor logs, and inventory spreadsheets.
