Viskase operates a viscose chemical extrusion facility in Loudon, Tennessee and is seeking a student to fill a full-time 15-month position as a co-op student in the Corporate Process Engineering department.
The Engineering Co‑Op Program provides students with hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment, supporting process improvement, quality, and efficiency initiatives. The program develops practical engineering skills while building a pipeline of talent aligned with the organization’s operational needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Support Corporate Process Engineering activities. Including the following:
- Work on setting up Asset Framework and tag points in newly installed PI System
- Assist with the installation of instrumentation and hardware on new process machine under construction.
- Programming of Instrumentation
- Maintain revisions and updates to drawings, P&IDs and project spread sheets.
- Assist with Inventory Control.
- Order and track materials as needed for Engineering projects.
- Assist engineers in preparing design documentation.
- Technical interface with external and internal customers.
- Assist plant operations in a technical capacity with troubleshooting controls related issues
- Other tasks as assigned
Education and Requirements
Education:
Completion of 2 years of a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering program or a program in a closely related field (required)

- Excellent Written & Verbal communication
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
- The co-op student is always expected to work safely, in accordance with Viskase policies & procedures and generally recognized best practices.
- The co-op student should be eager to learn – there is a large learning curve to the chemical & mechanical processes taking place at Viskase.
- Excellent organizational skills
