Position Summary

 

We are searching for a Maintenance Manager to provide strategic and operational leadership for all maintenance functions within a 24/7/365 continuous manufacturing facility. This role ensures safe, reliable, and cost-effective operation of all plant assets including production equipment, utilities, powerhouse systems, buildings & grounds, machine shop, and electrical/instrumentation systems. The Maintenance Manager will drive equipment reliability, continuous improvement, workforce development, regulatory compliance, and cost control to support plant performance objectives.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct supervision of 2 supervisors and hourly team members; indirect leadership of unionized hourly workforce.  (approximately 30)
  • Responsible for preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance activities for the facility
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve a reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) strategy.
  • Improve asset uptime, reduce unplanned downtime with a willingness to push the maintenance team.
  • Establish & track department KPI’s, analyze reports, and implement corrective actions to improve efficiency and reliability.
  • Ensure effective planning and scheduling processes in coordination with operations.
  • Oversee Powerhouse operations including boilers, steam systems, compressed air, chilled water, and plant utilities.
  • Ensure compliance with all environmental, safety, and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain buildings, grounds, and facility infrastructure.
  • Champion a safety culture within Maintenance and the Powerhouse.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, company safety policies, LOTO, confined space, hot work, and contractor safety requirements.
  • Lead and participate in safety audits, risk assessments, incident investigations.
  • Participate in safety certification of all new equipment installations.
  • Ensure maintenance documentation supports regulatory inspections and compliance audits.
  • Lead employee selection, onboarding, training, coaching, performance management, and disciplinary actions when necessary.
  • Conduct performance appraisals and goal setting for salaried employees.
  • Develop technical skill depth and succession planning within the department.
  • Foster strong labor relations within a unionized environment.
  • Manage and control the department’s operating budget.
  • Identify cost reduction opportunities without compromising safety or reliability.
  • Support capital planning, justification development, and project execution.
  • Collaborate with Engineering on capital projects, upgrades, and equipment installations.
  • Review project scope, execution plans, and maintenance integration strategies.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives using root cause analysis (RCA), failure analysis, and corrective action systems.

 

Education and Requirements

  • BS/BA in Engineering or Engineering Technology.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in maintenance management in a manufacturing environment with a 24/7-365-day operation – preferably in Chemical Processing and in a Union environment.
  • Must have experience managing a small to mid-sized team in a unionized environment.
  • Demonstrates good verbal and written communication skills, including presenting to groups.
  • Demonstrates positive leadership, organization, and strong people skills, as well as coaching skills and techniques.
  • Demonstrates problem identification and resolution skills, and the ability to drive change.
  • Strong experience in MS Office including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
